Exchange with the Arts and Humanities Research Council
The National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) concluded an agreement with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) of the United Kingdom in October 2007 aimed at promoting the exchange of information and research in the arts and humanities. Exchanges with the AHRC have been on-going since then, primarily through the acceptance of UK postgraduate students and early career researchers at the six NIHU institutes, where they receive research supervision.

In October 2025, three representatives from AHRC, including AHRC Executive Chair Professor Christopher Smith, visited the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN). They first paid a courtesy visit to Director-General Yamagiwa Juichi, where they talked about their respective organizations and their research activities and discussed proposals for potential collaborative research between the two organizations.

The visitors toured RIHN experimental facilities and visited sites of current research projects. At the SATOCONN Project, led by Professor Janet Dwyer (RIHN/University of Gloucestershire, UK), Professor Dwyer provided an explanation of the project.

The AHRC group also met with a junior researcher and a postgraduate student engaged in research at RIHN who are recipients of AHRC funding support. The visit concluded with an exchange of views regarding future NIHU-AHRC collaborations.
